The railroads have been hauling long lines of coal drags since the 19th century. While coal is found in a more uniform size in today’s Powder River Valley trains, it wasn’t always so. There were several popular grades and sizes in earlier times.

The goal of the Illinois Coal Company is to give model railroaders a selection of sized coal loads to fit within the scale that they model. Too many times a load will look too large or small for the scale being modeled. You won’t experience that problem with an Illinois Coal Company load. Our coal load prototypes are manufactured with real coal so that your loads look just like the real McCoy. You won’t see your loads cracking and disentegrating after a few years of use because the glue failed after father time visited. Our loads retain their shape just like the coal that they emulate.

If you need a particular style load that is not currently manufactured within the hobby, please drop us a line. We’ll see what we can do to help.
